I can swear I heard either in a non-Le Show podcast, or on WBEZ, that Harry does not get paid by KCRW for Le Show in exchange for total artistic freedom… is that true? I could find no mention either way on the web.

It was on one of the Podcasts from a couple of weeks back. I can’t see how a radio station could be affiliated to some of the stuff Mr Shearer says! As a plucky Brit who hasn’t the time or inclination to ‘do a Chomsky’ and find out about every single news event from its source, I’m reliant on Harry to keep me abreast of international developments.

Let’s hope he keeps up the good work!

Mr Shearer is indeed a “volunteer” at KCRW, the mothership for “Le Show” and he is not paid by the station. Whether that’s because he gets complete artistic freedom (which he does) or just because he’s a public spirited soul, I’m not sure (do you read this forum, Mr S?).

I don’t know about the other outlets, XM and Sirius, the shortwave station, or the overseas carriers.

Pulling the feed off the satellite apparently is free, as well, so as far as I’m aware there’s no charge to any of the affiliates of the “Le Show Radio Network”.

What you may have heard on the podcast was the KCRW pledge drive (or, as Mr Shearer called it “begging”) version of broadcast taken from the on the air feed. This was a screwup by someone at the station, as the full version of the program was supposed to have been on the podcast. I haven’t checked but I assume that podcast has been replaced by now.

What a guy! I’ll update his wikipedia entry, if I can figure out how. If he’s not getting cash, he may as well get some credit.
