Daryl Gates' resignation letter
|

When L.A. police chief Daryl Gates resigned in 1992 Harry wrote a resignation letter for Gates for Harry’s column in the L.A. Dog-trainer’s Sunday Magazine, ‘Man Bites Town’. The Dog-trainer would not publish it. The ‘L.A. Reader’ did. I can’t find it on the ‘Net. Harry can’t find a copy. The ‘Reader’ has gone out of business. Has anyone a copy? I remember ‘keeping the jungle south of Olympic [a street in L.A.]’ and ‘let the monkeys burn their tree’. |

I believe that the column to which you refer is in Mr Shearer’s book Man Bites Town. At this writing, Amazon.com has a whole flock used copies for sale. Heck, you can find a “collectible” copy. If your name happens to be “Sam” you can even find one inscribe by the author, just for you. |

Good heavens… what a great day to be Sam! |
