Listening on and off today to KCRW Santa Monica, and heard absolutely nothing regarding the enormous Live Earth event taking place all around the world.

At about 2pm Los Angeles time, I decided I’d call the station and ask about it.

To say the result was stupefying would be an understatement.

Here’s as best as I can do to provide a verbatim account of my brief conversation with Host Chris Douridas, live dj, internet dj, and the former music supervisor for KCRW.

((Kcrw, for those who may not know, is the homebase for the Le Show broadcast and station of origin for that program.
Vastly influential in music, “culture” and, to some extent, social issues here in Los Angeles. ))

NEARLY VERBATIM :

Me: Hello, just wondering, I’ve been listening off and on today, and I haven’t heard anything about the “live earth” thing at all so far ….....

CDouridas : Hm. Not sure I’m aware of that. What is it ?

Me: You know, eight cities or whatever, world-wide, gigantic Global Warming event ? Music ?

CDouridas : Hadn’t heard of that one.

Me: Uh… guess the reason I ask is that as a kid I recall tremendous radio-support for stuff like live-aid, farm-aid…...

CDouridas : Well, they must not have contacted us about this one. Thanks for the heads up.

Me: Can’t believe you don’t KNOW, man. It’s world-wide, countries all over the world… global warming ? al gore ? ....

silly presenter…Live Earth & Spinal Tap…was a * mild * frenzy over that in the UK lol

We were totally mortified when The Tap were cut short on UK TV. Unfortunately, not even they could upstage Simon Le Bon in terms of sheer ignorance! If memory serves me correctly he said (in vague terms) ‘it’s not up to me to worry about the environment. I got some people to tune in, do your worst…I mean best…to get them interested in this worthwhile topic…whatever it may be’.
