Topic: Talk Le Show / Who did Harry lose? The May 11, 2008 episode of The Simpsons, Mona Leaves-a, was dedicated to Elsie Castellanetta and Dora K. Warren. A nice tribute in that episode, particularly the montage at the end. Harry, I’m sorry for your loss. |

Topic: General Chatter / Simpsons ride at Universal Studios Hey, I was just kidding. I actually have no real opinion about the Simpsons ride or, in fact, the Simpsons teevee show itself. In fact, I’ve only seen it a couple of times (once in a pizza parlor in Solana Beach, California, when they interrupted the usual surfing videos, the whole place came to a screeching halt, and the customers and all the staff sat in rapt attention for the entire half hour, and once when I was in Scotland and they seemed to be running a Simpsons marathon on one of Rupe’s channels). My personal reason for being a fan of Mr Shearer’s is his “Le Show”, which I began listening to before I knew anything about his involvement with the Simpsons, This is Spinal Tap, etc. He was just a guy on the radio who said and did some pretty interesting stuff. |

Topic: General Chatter / Simpsons ride at Universal Studios I work in animation production, and worked on the pre-show animation for the Simpsons ride. There is nothing in this material that is in any way in worse taste than the TV show itself. It might have been improved by the presence of Harry’s character voicings, true enough, but the “good taste” remark is not applicable. Nor, incidentally, does it go to the question at hand. Why shouldn’t there be a Simpsons ride? As the project developed, it even began to seem possible that the entirety of the mythical Krustyland could in fact be built – and perhaps will be in years to come. Was it simply a question of money, or was there perhaps a scheduling issue that caused Harry to turn down the project? Inquiring minds wish to know. His character voicings are certainly missed in the show. |

Good taste? Why does it disturb me to know that there even is a Simpsons ride? |

Topic: General Chatter / Simpsons ride at Universal Studios It has been pointed out by various sources that none of the characters voiced by Mr. Shearer are being used in the Simpsons ride at Universal. |

Topic: HarryShearer.com / Web site doesn't work at all without Flash Web sites built on Flash (as opposed to just using Flash here and there for this and that) need to be stricken from the planet. There’s no reason to do it other than for a designer’s self-stroke. It causes more problems than it solves. I notice a lot of famous folk tend to hire Web firms that create sites in all Flash. I assume they think they are getting the best that’s out there, since they’re paying more, but a site like this could be built on HTML in a few days and maintained by a college kid working part time. And it would be a better site, too. I will say it looks good. But then, it would look just as good in HTML, and people wouldn’t be infuriated trying to use it. Or trying to, you know, since this is the World Wide Web, LINK TO SOMETHING. |

Topic: General Chatter / The Credibility Gap There have been references to the ‘Bronze Album” and I saw another about ‘A Great Gift Idea”, and it was, but does anyone know about “Woodschtick and more”? I am looking at my 12’ vinyl that has followed me around since it was born. In my opinion, It has more of their best stuff in one place than any other. One redeeming virtue of Bronze Age is, you can’t have too much Nubasonic Oil, if you’re going to sell out, that is, heh , heh. |

Topic: Talk Le Show / Who did Harry lose? My thought was that perhaps Harry’s mother had died. The online version of the Sunday, February 24, 2008, issue of the Los Angeles Times had a death notice for Dora Warren with just the words Hillside Mortuary and a phone number. There were no biographical details nor names of next of kin to verify my theory. Harry, my condolences on your loss and my sincerest apologies to you and your family if I am mistaken. |

Topic: Talk Le Show / Who did Harry lose? I believe I may have figured out who it was that Harry lost. I took me a lot of “connecting the dots”, but I believe it was John Brunious bandleader for The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. John’s second line procession was held the previous Saturday in New Orleans. While I’m not absolutely certain, the pieces all fit. The question still unanswered relates to the cryptic “thanks for your honesty” message. |

Topic: Talk Le Show / Who did Harry lose? When I was listening this morning to my saved podcast of last week’s show, and I suddenly heard a few strains of David Frishberg’s “You are There”, it brought tears to my eyes. Harry, I’m so sorry for your loss, Barny |

Topic: Talk Le Show / Who did Harry lose? I too am interested to know more. It sounded a little cryptic, but sincerely personal. With a little over 3 minutes left in the broadcast Harry seemed to be fumbling through sound clips, then Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings begins to play. After a momentary pause he continues: “but I’ll be alright, sorry, a little confusing here because nothing has changed… ...and yet something has. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Le show audience and my personal family are greatly diminished by the absence of one this week. He goes on to close the show in more the usual manner. Harry, we’ve never met, but listening to you in my head(phones) every week leads me to think of you as a friend I just haven’t met yet. Please accept my warmest heartfelt wishes for you and your family for your loss. Vern |

Topic: Talk Le Show / alan toussaint: simply wonderful This week’s show with Alan Toussaint was a real treat. What a great profile of such a pivotal figure in the world of music. The occasional New Orleans music profile would be a nice addition to the regular show. Aaron Neville, Joseph “Ziggy” Modeliste, etc. Thanks so much Harry for a great podcast. |

Topic: Talk Le Show / New Orleans Carnival Trash - Metaphor for Human Society Clif, almost that exact same thought went through my head when I was listening to “Le Show” this weekend. I also found myself wondering whether all the effort put into organizing and preparation for “Carnival” couldn’t be put to better use organizing and preparing for a better future for the city of New Orleans. Different strokes, I guess. |

Topic: Talk Le Show / New Orleans Carnival Trash - Metaphor for Human Society What the spectators greatly desire and will do anything to get one day, the knicknacks that are tossed from the floats, the next day are just so much trash littering the streets, that nobody wants. It just made me think that that was such a great metaphor for human society in general. |
